Wanderlust Support Group

Postby kunsttyv » Wed Mar 29, 2017 5:18 pm

I'm about to lose it again. Trying to hide away certain books, keep my friends and family close, pretend that the non-Spanish movies on Mubi aren't there, forget about the fact that we have only been dealt limited time in this life to work on languages, or any other vocation for that matter. Eyes on the target, keep to the plan. Relax, there will be a time later. I've heard a healthy diet should help. Some say chewing gum does the trick.

My local library service has over 400 polish books. 400!

No interest to me at all. None.

The other day I was ogling my TY Icelandic course. Closed it again and put it back on the shelf. I've also been making notes on Japanese resources.

I announced some months ago (mostly to myself) that 2017 would be The Year of Brazilian Portuguese, and I am considering Norwegian as the Language of the Year for 2018. That makes wanderlust a bit more manageable for me.

I've been trying to fight off Russian lately. Not sure if it truly counts as wanderlust, as I'll eventually get to it once I've 'done' French and German. My last 'language' purchases have all been for Russian, which isn't helping...

I also feel compelled to collect Assimil books, even the ones I'll probably never use.

This helps me too to some extent. For me it's a Russian year followed by a Spanish to C1 year. Only problem is that my wanderlust languages only find space in my schedule in 2020 ...

I tend to refrain from buying resources until I need them for real. I'm the same with books in general. My husband is a book hoarder and buys books for our library all the time even if he has no time to read them. My own bookshelves are full of books I have read already.

I'm now actually pretty good at not buying stuff that I don't (yet) need, otherwise I'd be a book hoarder too. I spotted Perfectionnement Russe at a bargain price though, so I had to make an exception. Using it will be a sort of reward.

A friend of mine once said, "The only thing more fun than reading books is buying books." :)
