Do you remeber the language?

Postby Username » Mon Feb 27, 2017 12:33 pm

Hello,

Im currently learning Polish on my own, with a very bad sense of learning-style. So i approach it, in different ways, but im very anxious, about forgetting what i learned. It sometimes keeps me from letting me have a more free-running approach. I also wanna keep it very systematic, and i think that goes hand in hand with the anxious about forgetting? I dont know, and as i dont attend any classes, i wonder is someone can explain this kind of case. Or how to think about it.

Thanks!

Would spaced repetition be systematic enough for you?

What really counts is the amount of time you devote to the language. I would suggest keeping track of the numbers of learning/input hours. This will not only make you sure you are making progress but will also give you a tool to measure it.

How many days go by between sessions of studying your target language? I find that if I take too many days off, this is a more serious problem for me. You may want to schedule review sessions on a regular basis rather than going on to new material.

This! I love setting goals with input hours. And consistency, you must be with the language everyday. Eventually you'll "absorb" more and more and you'll have less and less anxiety about forgetting things. Anxiety is bad for memory and definitely slows you down in language learning.

I'd lose the anxiety and maybe go for the free-flowing approach you seem to be drawn to, if it were me.
