I have noticed that my reading speed in English temporarily decreases after I have been reading in Spanish. When I switch from Spanish to English for a while I will find myself reading more carefully and listening to the words in my head - as though I were still reading in Spanish. Usually, I only read novels (in English) slowly if I find the prose so beautiful that I want to savor every word.
