Indeed, this is not unlike one of the techniques Assimil encourages in some of their courses which actually give good instructions for use (I'm thinking here specifically of Dutch with Ease which recommends users "Listen to the recording once more. Stop the machine after each sentence, and try to repeat it aloud.")
