I used to hate anki too, I still hate some of the strange unintuitive design that they've had for years. I also used to use memrise, but as soon as anki added an online sync feature, memrise became obsolete in my opinion. Now I can use my laptop to create the cards and review them on my phone easily. It's really good.
I'm soon going to try making my own plugin, a helper for creating audio/text cards. I'll post it somewhere on this forum once I've finished it.

For those looking for alternatives to Anki, you could check out Flashcards Deluxe or Mochi.

There are also some reading apps that also include some built-in support for creating SRS flashcards from your own material, e.g. Readlang and Language Reactor.
