What did that "What?" mean and what's this joke on?

Nah, it was just me finding the title both complicated and ambiguous, and it wasn't clear to me straight away what the thread might be about.

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry you found that funny and worth posting. Your joke came across as mocking their English. I didn't expect this on any forum, much less on a language forum. Very sad to know that if I don't write a thread title properly, my error will be showcased in this thread, on this language forum.

I was mocking myself actually. As for the rest of it, this is a humourus thread, no? There are a lot of things on here that are offensive. Pick someone else, I'm not interested.

I don't think that's what (s)he meant, mate. The thread title is actually correct English (although we would be much more likely to say "can you get native pronunciation...?" without a definite article and also a comma after "languages" would help comprehension IMO); it's a just a bit of a "garden path sentence"* that is difficult to process syntactically, especially because it is hard to imagine what syllables and applause might have to do with each other, and what their relation to pronunciation could be, without first reading the thread and so you get little help in parsing it from context.

I imagine and hope that Tillumadoguenirurm wasn't poking fun at the poster's English, which (as I say) is technically correct.

Edit: I see Tillumadoguenirurm just posted that (s)he was mocking him/herself.

I did not say the sentence was incorrect (or correct). It's irrelevant.

To both of you and everyone else, if you find something offensive/disrespectful, please report it.

Originally this kind of thread was actually started because on the old forum you had very limited space for coming up with a descriptive title. Also, don't know about others, but much of the time I don't even remember who started a specific thread when reading the "answers" here :D

Q. How do I go from B2 to C1?
A. You can't. Diagonal moves are not allowed, you can only move up, down, or sideways. Pick a different game if you don't like the rules.
