Q: When is translation not translation?
A: Translation is, literally by definition, translation, that is why they call it translation. If translation were to stop being translation it would no longer be translation. (Just confused myself there.)

Q: When is translation not translation?

When you translate "Q: When is translation not translation?" into "Q: When is translation not translation?"

Btw. for a fairly long period Google Translate gave somewhat unpredictable results when you asked the system to translate from a language into itself. Then it stopped this source of entertainment and resorted to the tactic illustrated above - just repeat the original phrase unchanged - but before I posted this message I just checked one time more, and lo and behold, the system now translates "Q: When is translation not translation?" into "Q: When is the translation not translation?". It is an open question whether this qualifies as a translation rather than a wanton destruction done to discourage users from misusing the glorious beast in unintended ways. Or maybe it just happens to show a hole in its defenses..
