Q. How do you know if you understand?
The neurologic and psychiatric examination is quite a complex issue, I don't dare trying to fit it in a forum post.
Q. German or Italian?!
Good question, looks can be deceiving. If he eats mostly pasta and pizza and drinks only very good coffee, he may be italian. If he invites you to Oktoberfest and will drive you there in a volkswagen, he's probably german.
Q. Worst part of being dependent on digital tools
Having movement restricted by the wifi range.

Q. How to move from B1-B2-C1 in France
A. As implied, this *does* differ by country. In fact it can even differ by city or by suburb. I suggest buying a copy of Locations And World Language Proficiency Transitions. Armed with your longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates, you can use the Index to quickly find which page to reference.

This used to be a great thread back at HTLAL. Now it's almost forgotten.
Maybe rdearman and emk should add a character limit to the thread titles here...

Re: The Answers to Discussion Topics
Q: 2017 thoughts, 2018 plans
A: That*s quite a lot ....
Q: What is your preferred % of known words for extensive reading?
A: 100 % would be nice
Q: Please help me out
A: Is it really so terrible to be here?
Q: ¿Cómo elegir entre inglés y español para nuevos proyectos?
A: Use Spanish for those that are in Spanish and English those that are in English (or the inverse, just for fun)
Q: Geschäftsdeutsch and Beyond
A: Guten tag (everything more advanced than that belongs to the realm of Beyond)
Q:The 30-Day Speaking Challenge
A: Everyone around you will look forward to day 31, and so will you and your sore throat
Q: How to translate this Norwegian title?
A: No need to.. somebody already translated it into English
Q: How many languages can a person learn in their lifetime?
A: None. The person in in question can only learn languages in his/her own lifetime, not in that of an anonymous group of other persons
Q: Do letters with diacritical marks frighten you?
A: In Denmark we have solved the problem by selling our national postal company to the Swedes. Now we hardly ever get letters any more.
Q: Languages with alveolar flap only?
A: I don't know any language with only one sound. Most have both vowels and consonants, and different kinds of consonants at that, some entirely without any kind of flap
Q: "now" context
A: "before" and "after"
Q: A chessplayer learns languages (German for now)
A: I have heard about Catalan, Sicilian, Russian and English openings and even one called Scandinavian, but is there also a German one?
Q: Where to go after finishing a language course?
A: To somewhere where you can celebrate the victory without having to prove that you have learnt anything
