vetting or censoring?

Postby marpole » Wed Jul 22, 2015 11:14 pm

Are new posts vetted or censored before being posted?

sorry, I did not mean this for the HTLAL discussion forum, rather a general question.

Not as far as I know. At least it must be near instant if that's the case.

Or it may reflect the use of filter software. I attempted to post a response to a post by Polyclod that I felt was disrespectful towards Francois Micheloud and snide in its tone, and I may have included something along the lines of requesting that he not engage in pishing on the door on the way out, and it never made its way onto the main HTLAL discussion thread. Perhaps "pishing" did not make it past a filter, or whatever. I doubt it was a moderator - I see we have a number already appointed by the new landlord.

As far as I am aware, neither the old forum nor the new forum has any kind of manual approval of messages. I do vaguely remember that HTLAL might have once replaced certain profane English words with stars. I always found this annoying, because sometimes you want to translate those words, or discuss the finer details of how they're used.

As for larger moderation issues, HTLAL has a set of rules that the administrator asked the moderators to enforce. In a nutshell: No politics, no religion, treat other users with respect. Also, no spam and no piracy. I encourage everybody to read those rules, and to decide whether or not they're comfortable abiding by them. Different communities have different expectations, and not everybody will be comfortable in every community.

As for this forum, rdearman has asked the same team to handle moderation, and we're applying roughly the same rules.
