Identifying Oneself with HTLAL Account

Postby Gatsby » Fri Aug 14, 2015 5:24 am

Sorry, but I'm very computer challenged. EMK mentioned in another thread to have the courtesy of identifying oneself here by linking to their HTLAL account. I have no idea how to do this. So, I just want to say that I'm 'Gatsby' here and was 'Gatsby' on HTLAL. (Member since Jan 2008). I wasn't a very active poster there (everyone else had much more interesting things to say than I), but I was always a very consistent user of the site and learned much from everyone's posts. Thanks for continuing here.

On your third post magic things will happen. Captain Picard and Data will open up options under your profile (user control panel), and there's a section there where you can link to HTLAL.

That third post magic really needs to be spelled out clearly when registering. I didn't know it either and had the same question: how to put stuff on sidebar.

kanewai, aabram - Thanks so much for the quick replies. This is my third post, so I'll just wait for the magic. :)

I was banned some times there, but some weeks ago I've written to emk and I've told him my nicks on htlal. the admins and mods here know that I was banned there. I was there before emk was a mod, when they banned people all the time and hidden (active on yoru profile, but impossible to access yoru PMs or log in and post). since that emk is a mod, it seems much better.

I don't sectretly visit here or try to not be myslef, but I asked emk please don't ban me. Thanks.

OK, just a few quick notes. :-)

If your name is the same here and on HTLAL, everybody will figure out who you are. No need to worry!

There are some cases where it's especially useful to let us know your name on HTLAL:

  1. If you're a long-time forum member, and if you want everybody to know your new name. This is a really nice and courteous gesture.
  2. If you've ever been banned on either site, please let the moderators know all your user names and please PM the moderators to ask for permission before posting. Vogeltje has done this. Failure to do so means that all old bans remain in effect. (If you do contact us, we may or may not grant permission, depending on the reason for the original ban and whether we think you're likely to follow the forum rules in the future.)
  3. If you're mostly here to complain and argue, especially about things that happened in 2007. If you do this under a brand-new name, we may assume that you're a previously banned user bearing a strangely obsessive grudge, and act accordingly.
I've just added an "About Me" field to the user profiles, and if you wish to mention your names on other forums, you can do it there. Thank you for helping out!

I wish I knew about this site. It was lonely, I missed the insight from the seniors.
