Re: Tristano's log 2017: Hebrew (A.K.A. The undecided language learner)

'Scanners', in my opinion are the kinds of personalities that are simply captivated by more things that they want to become better at and be involved in and don't focus on one thing/less things to accomplish this. They want it all! Well, sort of. But we scanners don't really "want it all"...

Re: Tristano's log 2017: Hebrew (A.K.A. The undecided language learner)

... and every year I add new things to my wish list! I think you are a "scanner". I am a scanner. A scanner is a personality type that finds lots and lots of things to be so interesting, they can't be resisted. Many people on this forum are scanners, even if they don't know it. We discuss...

Re: A forum for non-language chatter ?

I join those who hesitate to support a non-language learning section. I believe we should put all our efforts and energy into having a high-quality language learning forum. In my opinion, a non-language chat would detract from that. Also, the forum moderators already have a huge job with the forum a...

Re: Finding Images for Flashcard Vocabulary

take a wordlist and get images for all of them automatically. How effective do you think that was? The reason I ask is that I have tried that too, both with software, and manually with Google Images. But I have abandoned that approach. The problem is that, for a whole page full of images, there may...

Re: [JP/NL] Aardbei Koekjes - EarthBerry's language log!

Button Bashers NL, Podcast 73: Muziek in Games 4 . I had a listen to that podcast. First time I'd been on SoundCloud. So I had a look at what was available in Dutch. I searched on "natuurkunde" (physics) and it looks very encouraging. https://soundcloud.com/search?q=natuurkunde Thanks for...

I don't follow many logs but I follow yours. Your various challenges and accomplishments are always interesting. I hope that you will at least continue your log about your Dutch progress because you now have a real vested interest. You undoubtedly will be making progress, and many people here are in...

Re: Lang-8 function?

couldn't we just have a small topic/section called "Correct my entry" and paste the lang-8 link? I think it would be even better to have such a feature right here on our Forum. I believe we have the native or near-native expertise. We are looking for ways to make our Forum and our Blog/Wi...

Re: Language exchange research thesis

Sometimes, it is almost surprising how big languages are in just as bad position as the small ones. One manifestation of this is imbalance. For example, although an English native may be able to find a Dutch language partner, it is virtually impossible to find one who isn't a whole lot better in En...

A: That is easy. That thread is 2% about comprehension, and 98% about arguing.

Viglo.co - peer-to-peer digitally immersive language program

I just stumbled across Viglo this morning. It is new - just getting started. I have not tried it yet. It claims to support English, Spanish and French, and intends to expand its language offerings. Here are some notes from its website: Explore the 3D Immersive Environment with your character and mee...
