Re: Old Norse

A short video about a project between University of York & Jorvik Centre where they attempted to recreate/speak Old Norse: https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=1s&v=_OKxzSKzJe0 Edit: because I am a technophobe I can't embed the video  York also hosts an early music festival , and is apparentl...

An american lady with a nice voice has recorded some of the Just William books for Librivox, so you could let your other children listen so that they know what to expect. :)

Re: The great push to C2 (French)

I'm also using this time to start filling in some of the knowledge gaps I have in French history - I don't know much about the early 20th century domestically (I studied/worked on colonization so I'm better with the colonies), and there are many gaps prior. If anyone knows of a Peter Calvocoressi-s...

Re: Listening vs Comprehension (and the case against TV) [interesting article]

The Hypnoseries transcripts I have used usually do match - well worth a look. I tried with a radio adaption of Romeo and Juliette paired with a wikisource script, then a french dub of the 1968 Lion in Winter film paired with the english language stage play text, so some differences should have been...

Re: Listening vs Comprehension (and the case against TV) [interesting article]

I've done lots of intensive listening by ripping French Buffy, Dr Who and Game of Thrones episodes to audio and then breaking them down into scenes. With the Hynoseries transcripts, it is possible to do exactly what the author says. I find such short bursts of study without visual context to be ver...

Re: Languid Language Learning

Finally, I bought a boxset of Jane Austen TV adaptations dubbed into French. I currently have nothing to play them on, but Jane and I will find a way. !!!!!!!!! I've been dithering about doing this too. Ever since I came across a thread of You and ... MamaPata(?) fan-girling over Ms Austen. Since t...

Re: Mork's Log 2017

French, also not on the Snippet Plan, wasted a lot of my time yesterday because I was looking for something legal to watch with French subtitles, or, failing that, English subtitles. Crime dramas featuring blood and guts, drugs or prostitutes bore me. What more can be said about those topics? What ...

Re: Sillygoose1's Language Extraordinaire

French: I've been watching some really cool documentaries lately and found a lot of cool books on Medieval history by experts, the French Revolution, and a really cool series of books called Le Livre Noir. I don't know if it's actually a series or not, but I found that title in works on the French ...
