Re: Assimil Hebrew

The course is worth studying it. I already worked through it. By the way don't wonder about that I say that my current Hebrew is about A2. It's not because I'm really at that level, but because I didn't have much practise via Skype and generally prefer to say that my level is low instead of exaggera...

Re: How many languages can you keep at a high level?

I can manage about seven or eight in the C-range, but some of them are going to be low C's. If we include B2's I think it's somewhere closer to 12. I share your opinion. I think that it's possible to keep about 12 languages at B2 if you have a normal job and don't work extra hours. However before k...

Similarities between Urdu and Persian

Hi, I would like to know how similar Urdu and Farsi are regarding to their vocabulary and grammar. An estimated percentage like given here http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/e/languages/similarities/index.html would be really helpful. I do know that there is a certain percentage of shared vocabula...

Re: Your Language Learning Strategy...In 50 Words or so

Studying 1. I work through an Assimil course not ignoring the ebbinghaus curve. 2. Then I work through another workbook (if necessary). I do this at least 3 times. 3. After having a good basis I jump into the cold water and regularly practise my new language. Repeating 1. I rehear the Assimil lesson...

Re: Best german grammar resources

Hello, What are the best books on german grammar in the "as a foreign language" outlook ( Deutsch als fremdsprache )? Has anyone successfully mastered this issue through any other sort of resource? I've been trying to use FSI, but it is quite boring, whereas duolingo's method doesn't aim ...

Re: Advice on choosing my next language

I would go for Spanish first, for you can learn it in no time. Later it's still possible to bite through a German course. In the meantime you could use Spanish in your everyday life. Given the fact that Spanish and Portuguese have 85% words in common you don't have to spend much time. I memorized As...

Re: Did a foreign languages study affect your fluency in your native tongue?

In grammar school my German teacher asked me once if I had a foreign background. I said, "no"... thought a bit and said, "... but I'm studying Dutch at the moment". Obviously my Dutch influenced my German in a way that let me appear to be a foreigner.

Re: Learning French through German

Appart from Assimil I can recommend you Langenscheidt and the course available from SGD which is probably the best one. However it's very costly and you need to invest a lot of time.
