Re: Slow Learning: French and Hindi

Although this week is a holiday week for me, I've had a new distraction: our dog had a litter of puppies Tuesday night! It feels like when I get some time to myself there's another knock on the door of someone wanting to have a look. Oh well. French I needn't have been so reluctant to do the 2nd sel...

Re: Slow Learning: French and Hindi

French I've been on holiday this week, but that doesn't always mean I have more time. For example, on the weekend I joined some friends for nearly a full day playing Ingress. And of course I have to spend some time with my family! Nevertheless, I have a bit more time to binge on languages this week...

Re: Lilly's log - French, Russian and reluctant Spanish

We also watched Le dîner de Cons , which is a comedy that is funny in a really uncomfortable way. It's like laughing at funny video shows where you know that the people in the clips probably broke bones or worse. I've watched Le dîner de Cons many times, and it makes me laugh more with each watchin...

Re: Learning French to Study in France

Btw, does Assimil really work? Is it a good technique? The answer to that question will vary from user to user, but I think it is the best textbook out there. My reasons? 1) The emphasis on texts and audio. 2) 4 full CDs of audio, 100% in the target language. No other introductory course comes clos...

Re: Slow Learning: French and Hindi

Here's a small update on my progress. French I'm still on week 8 of Hugo French , because I am not putting very much time into it per day. However, I have been putting most example sentences and exercises into Anki, so what I am learning is sticking much better than before. Today I finished Les Récr...

Re: Homeric Greek

I study ancient Greek, but in the past several years all the reading I have done has been from Biblical Greek. However, I started with the JACT course, Reading Greek, and I highly recommend it. Like most (if not all) courses in ancient Greek it has a lot of grammar and tables, but the emphasis is on...

Re: PM's French Courses Mission

So SRS remains a part of my routine, that's fine, nothing much to tell there, and Podcasts have been 99% of the time RFI Journal en français facile, which i've decided is in fact easy French, since I listened to another podcast. That podcast was 'L'humour d'Inter' by France Inter, which I was utter...

Re: French In Action, as a learning device?

By the way, the Man in Black has a slightly increasing role as the story moves on. Speaking of the story, I have to say I was disappointed with the way the story progressed. You spend a lot of lessons waiting for something to actually happen, but most of the episodes just talk about what they will b...

Thanks for this. Just for the record USA Netflix does not offer the Star Trek franchises with French audio or offer French subtitles. A quick check found Spiral with French audio but English subtitles. Perhaps there are more French programs. Disclaimer: I rarely use Netflix and its search engine le...

Re: PM's French Courses Mission

Okay, thanks to smallwhite for getting me thinking about the exam again, to the point where I've decided to get focused ;) As moral support, I have borrowed one textbook and one novel and I will study French with you over the next six weeks. What a great idea! I will join the cheerleading squad as ...
