Re: Old Norse

I know that the pronunciation of Old Norse and Modern Icelandic are not the same, but getting Icelanders working on this project would have been a great start.

Re: LLorg London 2017

This sounds like my to do list: http://www.thefirstpint.co.uk/2011/02/27/the-best-foreign-language-bookshops-in-london-2/ I'm afraid that Grant and Cutler is now closed, but it has been absorbed by Foyle's, which would be at the top of my list for foreign-language bookshops in London. It has a good...

Read a lot and follow my passion. Tolerate ambiguity and partial understanding.

Re: Soffía's Icelandic and French log

I'm still here! After reading nearly 4000 pages in Icelandic in 2016, I decided to give myself a little bit of a break. Partly this was because I'd been reading pretty hard, but mostly because I wanted to devote some time to writing short stories in English. Now I've finally surfaced, having written...

Re: Nordic book club: Englar alheimsins

Apologies, it's been a hectic week so I've had no time to compose a post for chapters 3 and 4. But if anyone reading along wants to discuss the book, do jump in! I'll be keeping an eye on the thread.

Re: Soffía's Icelandic and French log

Finished Hraunið , albeit watching with subtitles. I may watch it again without; I could hear and understand almost all of it but I might have been a good bit more lost without the prompt. Also I'm watching Occupied , which is Norwegian and excellent. I'm always pleased when I catch a few words here...

Re: ALTVM VIDETVR

@Soffía Wow, thanks for the link, that's quite a collection of resources! I think I'll try sticking with Gordon for now, but if it becomes too impenetrable I'll see what else I can read over there. You're welcome! The course is only in three volumes - textbook, readings and dictionary (IIRC) but th...

Re: ALTVM VIDETVR

And just like that - I'm done with the Old Norse course! Yeah, either it was meant only as a very brief introduction, or its creators never managed to finish it, but either way there are no lessons left. The nine lessons the course does have are packed with useful information and example sentences,...

Re: Nordic book club: Englar alheimsins

Here we are again... Daegga, it's very intrepid of you to give it a try in Icelandic! I'm sure I'm missing a lot too, but now that I think of it, I'd read it in English before my first read in Icelandic. So that obviously was a help. I've been thinking about why I enjoy this novel. Although the time...
