Re: The Polyglot Gathering, Bratislava 2017

Yeah, I was just showing a person the impressive list of participants, and it was lower than before. Maybe they've deleted the duplicate registrations (there were quite a few).

Re: Jeff's language log

2017 - Summary of week 20 Time for a late update. Another chaotic week. Work and life got in the way, and suddenly it was Saturday. I went for a short holiday and got back on Tuesday afternoon. The only language-related activities I did while I was away consisted of daily Duolingo sessions, a visit...

Re: Glossika--Is the only thing that counts in fluency development the number of “reps” (i.e. sentences heard and spoken

In one of the earlier videos (perhaps before his previous account disappeared from Youtube?) Glossika spoke a lot about the tongue being a muscle, and the more you used it, the easier you'd be able to speak. Back then, he was reading sentences from phrase books... 10 000 sentences, 25 000 sentences ...

Re: The Polyglot Gathering, Bratislava 2017

How about the good old word of mouth? I don't know how many feel that they're participating as representatives of LLORG, or to what extent the site could/should be promoted. Personally, I don't have a stack of business cards/stickers, nor an official LLORG tshirt - hey, we don't even have a logotype...

Re: Comics/Graphic novels as a way of learning real language

The most recent graphic novels I read were a couple of Tintin and Asterix albums in Irish. I really liked the Suske en Wiske albums ( Finn och Fiffi in Swedish) when I was a kid. I wonder how many languages they are available in. Apparently the series is still being published in Belgium (270 albums ...

Re: the Diaries of a Caffeinated Squirrel

At least most of the participants sing in their L2. ;)

(But seriously, I like when a country has a really great song which makes me want to sing along just because of how the language sounds, even if I don't understand a single word of it.)
