Re: Expug's 2017 Log - It's now and forever

Fremdsprachenlernen mit System finally moved on from regular class and is now discussing self-learning again. Much more interesting and much easier to follow now. I am also reading this currently - and finding it both interesting and not too difficult a read. Nice to see someone else is using the s...

Re: zenmonkey's multilingual adventures of a traveller

Despite the best intent, this was certainly not a week where I got everything I wanted to do in Hebrew done. Re: Tristano's log 2017: Hebrew (A.K.A. The undecided language learner)

Just quipping in as another person that enjoys your log and feels much like a kindred spirit (in fact, huge overlaps...). Re: RR in Spanish when you can't trill

Maybe the problem with 'perro' is going from that 'p' sound into the trill? Have you tried practicing with transitions that are a little easier to master? Try going from a velar or glottal to r like in the name Jorge /ˈxorxe/. Have you guys mastered the /x/ sound? Ojo, Oaxaca, Eugenio? I'm trying to...

I can't see the point in counting hours - after all ten minuts used efficiently may teach you more than having a TV set switched on in the background for 10 hours. On the other hand having a TV set switched on in the background for 10 hours may aid you to learn more from those 10 minuts of intensiv...

Re: How do you know if you understand?

It isn't beginner, but it certainly needs to be introduced before the C-levels. And yes, the Spanish construction is impersonal. But it is different because in Spanish you can drop subject pronouns, so the way the structure ends up being used is different. Dative constructions have been used in the...

Re: How to freeze a language at a beginner state?

I think it is a nice idea but likely fails in execution. You are either learning or you are forgetting. Re: How do you know if you understand?

Pandemonium or not, you can't know that you've understood correctly nor that the meaning is inherent in the discourse. This is a pretty clear philosophical discussion. If you fear that the meaning you have is insufficient then you need to construct referential checks. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wi...
