Re: The Polyglot Gathering, Bratislava 2017

Speakers will be invited to have dinner with the people who arranged the gathering, and they will in principle be exempt from paying the entrance fee. I write "in principle" because I so far have insisted on paying my fee like everybody else - but I do intend to participate in the eating e...

Re: The Polyglot Gathering, Bratislava 2017

This time I have solved the luggage problem: I never use check in luggage when I travel by air so there I'm limited to 5-10 kg of handluggage, depending on the airline. And that's how it will be on the way out. However I go back home from Bratislava by train so for once a couple of extra kg for book...

Re: Tracking spreadsheets?

Zenmonkey was actually commenting on the first part of my message above while I was writing the second. So let me just add: it would be a good thing to get apps or other tools to measure things easily and without disturbing the learning process itself. I would probably not use them myself (being so ...

I can't see the point in counting hours - after all ten minuts used efficiently may teach you more than having a TV set switched on in the background for 10 hours. On the other hand having a TV set switched on in the background for 10 hours may aid you to learn more from those 10 minuts of intensive...

Re: Iversen's second multiconfused log thread

Re: How do you know if you understand?

French and Spanish both use a descendant of the Latin word "restare". To be frank I was not too sure whether Latin always used it in the singular or in the number that corresponded to the number of the subject, so I decided to have a look at some authentic examples. Since Latin wasn't on t...

Re: Iversen's second multiconfused log thread

I have spent the weekend until Monday aftrnoon at my mother's place, and since the weather for once was impeccable I spent much of the time on using a 'grass trimmer' - at least that seems to be the English name for a 'græstrimmer', which we in our family until now only have known under the (Danish)...
